Believe Me A Storytelling Manifesto for ChangeMakers and Innovators eBook Michael Margolis

If you're an innovator or change-maker, this book sheds new light on how to shift perceptions and get others to believe in what you're doing.
BELIEVE ME introduces you to 15 storytelling axioms that will change how you think about your work. Axioms like People don't really buy your product, solution, or idea, they buy the stories that are attached to it. Each axiom is supported by examples and inspired quotes from recognized luminaries, including Seth Godin, Gloria Steinem, Tom Peters, and Joseph Campbell.
"Believe Me will help you become the leader you need to be...This manifesto makes an inspired case for the future beyond just branding and the role of storytelling in the business equation."
- Kevin Roberts, Worldwide CEO, Saatchi & Saatchi, Author, The Lovemarks Effect Winning in the Consumer Revolution
"Right on cue, from the moment I started to read Believe Me, I found myself following Michael's words and realized how much this short but powerful book was going to influence me, my organization and all our partners involved in social entrepreneurship. Margolis' bottom of page advice gave me plenty of practical ways to re-evaluate the power of my professional and personal narratives. I can't wait to re-read this manifesto and begin developing new and more effective stories."
- Beverly Schwartz, Vice President, Global Marketing, Ashoka
"In Believe Me, Margolis describes the many factors reshaping the rules of business. If you want to excel as a leader of tomorrow, storytelling is a core thinking skill you can't afford to miss. This short little manifesto is an awesome and provocative addition to any business school curriculum."
- Paul Dillon, Manager, Learning Strategies, Schulich Executive Education Centre, York University (Toronto, Canada)

Believe Me A Storytelling Manifesto for ChangeMakers and Innovators eBook Michael Margolis
Anthropologists have postulated that storytelling was part of the evolutionary process that appeared during the Paleo Period. One's ability to know who to trust was a life or death matter. Stories were simulations of other's behaviors while hunting or in battle. Our brains are designed for stories and we remember them much better than a list of facts. This can work for us or against us, because sometimes, the stories we carry with us are oppressive.I am a career coach and have worked with many people who have been downsized. The process for eliminating one's position is designed to protect the company from legal action. An unfortunate outcome of this process is the person who is let go is often emotionally devastated. They tend to be stripped of their confidence and self-esteem. It becomes their story.
Believe Me: A Storytelling Manifesto for Change-Makers and Innovators cracked open a whole new world for me. Once I came to understand that changing your story really can change your life, it dramatically altered the way I worked with my clients. Storytelling is a powerful tool that enables people to release stories that are untrue or no longer serve them. The story of "Who's going to hire someone at my age? My company must have let me go for a reason. My career is over and I'm stuck." can become "This is an opportunity to retool, reinvent, and do something I love."
Stories can heal, empower, provide direction, and help people to understand their lives in a larger and richer way. This book was the beginning of my journey into storytelling and the power of the narrative. It is what it says it is, a manifesto, the author's statement of belief and how story is manifested in today's world, where everything is changing. It's not a how-to step-by-step guide nor was it intended to be. Such a thing cannot exist. It's a broad concept, not a piece of furniture from IKEA.
I have seen people transformed from utter despair to joy and success based upon some of the concepts in this book and other things I learned after reading it. They have found a bigger story.
Words are powerful and can be used to hurt or heal. One of the critical reviews struck me as mean-spirited and seemed to suggest some level of conspiracy to promote this book. It was, perhaps, meant to be helpful, but the conclusions were unfounded and very much wide of the mark.

Believe Me A Storytelling Manifesto for ChangeMakers and Innovators eBook Michael Margolis Reviews
Michael Margolis hasn't got only the nose to write a compelling book about the heart (and art) of storytelling, he knows how to select his bibliography as well!
From Seth Godin's 'Tribes', over Robert Dickman's 'The Elements of Persuasion', to Christina Baldwin's 'Storycatcher' and many more top references ...
I can not recommend enough this pratical guide (only 66 pages of easy reading content) to any professional storyteller or person infected by the art of communication, ... because we've been viewing our world through stories ever since the cavemen era and still are, ... even more than ever before (remember facebook, twitter)
Life is made of stories and experiences. When someone puts all of this together and makes a manifesto it is a life-changer. This book is a great teacher to me. I am very thankful for this book!
This short book was not an eye opener but a good start to understand the story. I only got one idea from it which kept repeating in most of this short book or booklet .
The best way for an organization to promote itself is through the stories from and about those who have felt the impact of its mission. Michael shows how storytelling effectively strengthens trust, connection, and advocacy.
A simple framework for understanding how stories are resonated and how they spread. Not too much depth into the topic, not enough stories told.
A short read. Good read if you're new to marketing and leadership. You will be glad you read it.
Just a regurgitation of what the author tried to get out of quotes without any depth. Story telling is important in everything we do but this book missed it. Felt like more of an author ego trip. If you are not the sharpest tack in the box you might find it interesting.
I’m working in storytelling field myself. I must admit that the big theories about storytelling are obviously there but the flow of the book might be unbearable sometimes. You get lost in the story...damn it
